It's the thing, I guess....

Whirlwind Weekend

What a busy weekend! Friday night started off a little slow. Chuck decided to go have dinner with his work buddies after being gone the previous day in Chicago, leaving me home alone 2 nights in a row (I was a little upset at him over that). So I watched the Illini play basketball (go Illini!) and discovered my curse on Illini basketball had been lifted-the only 2 games I watched all the way through last year were the only 2 the Illini lost all year. After the game was over and Chuck got home we went over to Dave's house to wait for company to arrive (people were coming for the last football game). Dave made chili while we waited. We didn't stay out too late, though.
Saturday was a football day. We tailgated, Curtis made his excellent breakfast sandwiches, the Illini lost (as usual), then it was time for chili. See, the last game of the year is usually the chili cookoff, which really isn't so much a contest as a...well...let's see how much chili we can eat. Five people made chili this time, and they were all good. Afterwards, we went back over to Dave's house and hung out again. Almost everyone (except us people that live in Champaign and Tony) left to drive back home. So the rest of us (me being the only girl) sat around, played board games and drank. When Chuck and I got home, the dogs were rather upset at us being gone all day.
Sunday the six of us went out to brunch at LePeep (which was also good). Then later that day after the Illini basketball team won again and Tony left, the rest of us went to see Harry Potter. More on that to come....

Why change a good thing?

This weekend is the last home Illini football game (thank god!) and I was really excited about making my special champagne jello shots-they're very yummy. To make them, you need the sparkling jello mix and champagne. So I drove around yesterday in the cold to 3 different grocery stores, and it seems sparkling jello mix is no longer made. Grrrrr.....why is it when companies make a new, good, unique product, it doesn't seem to stay on the market long. Ok, so maybe sparkling jello is the only example I can currently think of.

I decided instead to make home-made brownies and cornbread (to go with the chili cook-off our tailgate group is having). Now the house smells like brownies. Mmmmmmmm.....brownies.

The Bridgekeeper's Question

Random fact of the day:
The estimated airspeed of an unladen European swallow (Hirundo rustica) is 20-24 miles per hour.

No, the author did not calculate the speed of a swallow with a coconut.

Last Day of Work

I think I've finally worked my last day at my old clinic. Funny...it doesn't bother me the way it used to. I knew I was losing my job back in April, and officially haven't been employed there since July 9, but I've been filling in at least once a week or so since then. I've been really broken up about it for a long time because except for my boss, I really liked the facilities, the staff, and the clients. But on the drive home last night, for the first time I felt relieved that I would no longer have to make the long drive to work at a place that really didn't need me anymore. I have no more dates scheduled to work there, and I'm happy about it. I think now I can finally move on.

Trying this out

I've decided to start a blog. Apparently I'm relatively late jumping on the bandwagon compared to most of the people I know. Better late than never, as I usually say. That's it for now.
